Methodology: How Hyperset Ratings Are Calculated

Hyperset develops standardized digital audience ratings for sports, media and entertainment.

These ratings are designed to measure how audiences discover, engage with and follow athletes, teams and shows across the modern internet ecosystem.

All Hyperset ratings are derived from a consistent methodology that combines multiple signals of digital demand, attention and visibility into a single, comparable score.

The Hyperset Ratings Model

Hyperset digital ratings are designed using five components of online engagement and traffic capture:

Global Demand

The level of search interest and active audience intent surrounding an athlete, team or show across markets and languages.

Audience Engagement

The depth and frequency of use across digital and social platforms; including content consumption, repeat interest and community activity.

Traffic Value

The estimated commercial value of audience demand and search requests derived from search economics and cost-per-click (CPC) data.

Platform Visibility

The extent to which an entity is available and accessible across websites, platforms and other digital ecosystems.

AI Discoverability

The likelihood of an entity being surfaced, referenced or recommended within AI-driven systems and search environments such as ChatGPT, Gemini and Claude.

Score Construction

Hyperset ratings are normalized on a scale of 0–100 to enable comparison across sports, leagues, territories and media formats.

Scores are calculated by:

  • aggregating multiple digital signals across the five core components
  • applying standardization to ensure comparability across different categories
  • benchmarking against leading global entities within each domain
  • adjusting for scale, consistency and cross-market reach

This approach ensures that scores reflect both:

  • the volume of attention an entity generates
  • the breadth and stability of that attention globally

Scores are updated periodically to reflect changes in audience behavior, seasonal trends and emerging entities.

Global Player Interest™ (GPI)

Global Player Interest™ (GPI) measures the level of worldwide digital audience attention surrounding an athlete.

GPI enables comparison across:

  • sports
  • leagues
  • territories
  • generations

The rating incorporates signals including:

  • global search demand for player-related queries
  • engagement across digital platforms and communities
  • traffic value associated with player interest
  • visibility across media, platforms and publishers
  • consistency of attention over time

GPI is designed to reflect how much global interest an athlete generates online, not their on-field performance or sporting ability.

Global Show Interest™ (GSI)

Global Show Interest™ (GSI) measures the level of digital audience demand and visibility for television, streaming and live sports properties.

GSI captures how audiences discover and engage with shows across the internet, beyond traditional broadcast measurement systems.

The rating incorporates signals including:

  • search demand for shows and related content
  • audience engagement across platforms
  • traffic value associated with viewer intent
  • visibility across digital listings, platforms and publishers
  • discoverability within AI-driven environments

GSI provides a standardized framework for understanding how effectively content captures audience demand in a fragmented, digital-first landscape.

Standardization & Comparability

A core principle of the Hyperset methodology is standardization.

By applying a consistent framework across all entities, Hyperset enables:

  • direct comparison between athletes in different sports
  • benchmarking across leagues and competitions
  • comparison between shows across platforms and regions
  • a shared reference system for global audience attention

This standardization is critical in an internet environment increasingly shaped by search engines and AI systems, which prioritize structured, repeatable and trusted signals.

Why Standardized Ratings Matter

The way audiences discover content is changing. Search engines and AI systems increasingly determine:

  • what content is surfaced
  • which entities are referenced
  • how audiences navigate information

These systems favor:

  • consistent data structures
  • repeatable frameworks
  • trusted reference points

Hyperset ratings provide a standardized layer that helps athletes, teams and shows become more clearly defined, comparable and discoverable within this environment.

Ongoing Development

The Hyperset methodology is continuously refined to reflect:

  • changes in audience behavior
  • emerging platforms and ecosystems
  • shifts in search and AI systems
  • new forms of digital engagement

This ensures that Hyperset ratings remain aligned with how global attention is created, distributed and captured over time.
